ANC LIMPOPO COMMENDS GOVERNMENT ACTIONS RELATED TO EDUCATION CHALLENGES
The ANC in Limpopo welcomes all efforts by government to deal with the root causes of what has led to the recent criminal acts of dumping of school material.
This week, the Provincial government set up a team led by the Director General of the Limpopo Office of the Premier to investigate the root causes that lead to the excessive and unacceptable delays in distributing academic material to schools around the province. This is done in cooperation with the team setup by the National Department of Basic Education under the leadership of Professor Mary Metcalfe which is assessing whether late orders of textbooks have reached schools.
Meanwhile, the National Assembly has also deployed Members of Parliament from the portfolio committee on Basic Education to look into same issues with the aim of offering assistance to find proactive solutions to more efficient ways of delivering text books in the province. They are joined by their counter parts in the Limpopo Legislature.
"We believe the team will, without any further delays, assist the province to understand what has led to this undesirable state of affairs in our system of education; which is one of our top five priorities in our efforts to deliver a better life for all citizens," says Makonde Mathivha, ANC Limpopo spokesperson.
Mathivha continued: "These efforts, by the portfolio committees of both the National Assembly and the Limpopo Legislature are welcomed. It's our firm belief that these efforts by our leaders in government and parliament will go a long way in not only solving the current challenge but prevent a repeat of this problem in future."
The African National Congress in Limpopo calls upon all learners to focus on their studies and work harder in preparing themselves for the end-of-year examinations. We are confident that if they work closely with their teachers buttressed by support from their parents; it is still possible to compete at national level and put a good performance. We would like to advise our leaners not to be overwhelmed by the manner in which the school books distribution problem is being reported because this might demoralize and derail them from their studies.
"We condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the deviant conduct of those charged with the responsibility of distributing books and stationary to our schools for failing not only the province but the nation and most importantly, our learners' right to education." Mathivha concluded.
Further, the ANC in Limpopo calls on government to leave no stone unturned in its efforts to get to the root cause(s) of this situation in the education department. Government must ensure that all wrong-doers are brought to book.
