ANC registers 9086 candidates - Jackson Mthembu

Ruling party says it met IEC's Friday deadline

ANC STATEMENT ON THE COMPLETION OF REGISTRATION WITH IEC

The African National Congress (ANC) is pleased to officially announce that yesterday (Friday, 25 March 2011) it met the Independent Electoral Commission's (IEC) deadline by registering all its candidates in all nine provinces.

Despite failed attempts by some individuals in some parts of the Eastern Cape who took the ANC to court in a bid to subvert our internal democracy, we are now on course with our campaign to win the upcoming local government elections on 18 May 2011.

We are also pleased to announce that since Tuesday (22 March 2011) till Friday, we registered a total of 9086 candidates representing 4277 wards, 4161 Proportional Representation (PR) and 658 directly elected district councils.

Emerging from our towns, cities and villages, the ANC candidates are products of our masses due to the ANC's public participation nomination process. Our candidates - young and old, men and women - include fresh blood and those that have been there before to ensure continuity.

The completion of our registration process with the IEC signals the start of our campaign. We will now be criss-crossing the country on door-to-door campaign to engage our communities on our Manifesto as well as listening to people's advice in our quest to build better communities.
