ANC welcomes JCPS Cluster Report on corruption

Party says naming and shaming of individuals proof of govt's intolerance for this scourge

ANC welcomes JCPS Cluster Report

The African National Congress welcomes the statement on the progress in the fight against corruption released by the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster today, 9 June 2013.

The decisive action demonstrated by the Anti Corruption Task Team in exposing and prosecuting individuals involved in activities of corruption, defrauding the state and stealing from funds meant for the development of our country and our people, must be commended. In line with the African National Congress' resolve to deal uncompromisingly with corruption wherever it rears its head, the organisation is extremely pleased that the Cluster has been transparent, open and accountable to the public on its progress in fighting this scourge; indeed it is the ANC government itself which identifies, exposes and acts on incidents of corruption within its structures.

The naming and shaming of these individuals is further proof of the intolerance of our government on corruption. It is our hope that actions such as these will send an extremely loud message to would-be perpetrators that they will be found out and the law shall deal with them accordingly.

The ANC welcomes too the establishment of the Anti-Corruption Bureau in the Department of Public Service and Administration. While much more still remains to be done in the fight against corruption, we are confident that significant strides are being taken to reverse the tide.

Statement issued by Jackson Mthembu, ANC national spokesperson, June 9 2013
