ANCYL welcomes improvement in matric pass rate

League says no learner with requisite marks should be excluded from higher education

ANC YOUTH LEAGUE WELCOMES THE NATIONAL IMPROVEMENT ON SENIOR CERTIFICATE RESULTS:

04 January 2012

The African National Congress Youth League welcomes the overall improvement on the Senior Certificate results for 2011 and congratulates all learners who have passed. The ANC YL particularly says well done to all stakeholders in Education, particularly the various Departments of Education in Provinces that have improved or maintained their success rates, Teachers, Learners, Parents, Care-Givers and Communities. The progress made provides a very firm foundation for the intensification of teaching and learning within the context of prioritised education by the African National Congress.

The ANC YL salutes the reality that despite the challenges, since the introduction of the NCS, there seem to be gradual progress and improvement on the pass-rate at senior certificate level. This entails that our democratic government and State is efficient and on track to Open the Doors of Learning and Culture as espoused in the Freedom Charter. It is therefore the responsibility of all stakeholders in society and caring South Africans to contribute to the construction of a skilled, knowledgeable and expertise-driven society and economy.

The ANC YL will be mobilising all eligible and capable Matriculants to swell-up the ranks of Higher Education (HE) and Further Education and Training (FET) institutions to attain more focused and developmental skills, education and expertise. We will be going to communities to popularise School exit routes and bursary opportunities for all eligible Matriculants. All HE and FET institutions should function effectively at full capacity for 2012 onwards and continue to build capacity to admit and enrol more learners into their programmes. The ANC Youth League says that no learner who is eligible to be admitted in an institution of higher learning or FET should be kept outside.

Additional to mobilising learners into FET and HE institutions, the ANC YL will ensure that we open up opportunities and encourage other government institutions like the NYDA to open opportunities for learners that have not passed their National Senior Certificates. This will be through mobilising these learners into Vocational Training Programmes, National Youth Service, Entrepreneurial Development and Re-writing of the National Certificate examinations.

Overall, the ANC YL says well done to all Education Stakeholders and calls on all to dedicate attention to building a better education system and society. Our Campaign for Free, Quality and Compulsory Education is Underway, and will soon record practical coherence.
