CIPC backlog to be cleared by end of August - Rob Davies

Minister expresses confidence in Commissioner Astrid Ludin to fix problem

DAVIES SAYS THE CIPC TO FINALISE THE COMPANIES REGISTRATION BACKLOGS BY END OF AUGUST 2011

The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) has noted the public's concern regarding registrations backlog at the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC), but has requested that the new Commissioner, Ms Astrid Ludin, be given a chance to clear the backlog by end of August.

The CIPC was established in May 2011 and since its inception, there has been a massive increase in company registrations. The management of CIPC has given an undertaking to the dti and the Portfolio Committee on Trade and Industry that they are working around the clock to address the backlog. The Department will arrange for the CIPC to brief the Portfolio Committee at the end of August on progress made in clearing the backlog.

The Minister and the Department has full confidence in the Commissioner to address the current problems and challenges.
