Manase Report should've been published in full - IFP

Party disappointed by MEC Dube's decision to release report in restricted environment

IFP: LOW-KEY RELEASE OF MANASE REPORT RAISES SUSPICION

The IFP today condemned KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Ms Nomusa Dube, for releasing the Manase report in secret (see report).

The IFP said this in reaction to today's meeting at the eThekwini Municipality where the MEC officiated at the release of the report. The probe was commissioned by the MEC's Department to investigate allegations of corruption and mismanagement in the municipality.

"We were very disappointed by MEC Dube's decision to have the Manase report released in a restricted environment, where there was tight security and where only Councillors were allowed attend. To make matters worse, Councillors did not receive copies of the report," said IFP eThekwini Caucus Chairperson Mduduzi Nkosi.

Nkosi said that the IFP was troubled by the fact that a report, which that touches on issues of public interest, should be kept away from the public.

"This makes us suspicious that somebody somewhere is trying to hide information or trying to protect certain individuals. We demand that the report must be released to the public and that Councillors, as public representatives, must be given copies thereof," concluded Nkosi.
