Mdladlana must apologise for fake, racist email - DA WC

Grant Pascoe says the ANC should get out the gutter and pay costs of PWC investigation

The Democratic Alliance in the Cape Town metro calls on Mr. Mdladlana and the Western Cape ANC to issue an unreserved apology for its role in the fake racist email scandal.

We also reject the ANC's absurd defense, issued today through its spokesperson Mandla Dlamini during an interview with SABC radio, that the DA "appointed its own investigators" in an attempt to cover up the allegations contained in the email.

The "own investigators" referred to by Mr. Dlamini is in fact PricewaterhouseCoopers, a world class accounting firm of the utmost integrity. The DA had nothing whatsoever to do with this investigation. Any accusation by the ANC that PricewaterhouseCoopers is colluding with the Democratic Alliance and has manipulated the results of this investigation is a very serious allegation, and must be rejected with the contempt that it deserves.

The fact is that ANC has collapsed in the Western Cape. Its vaunted campaign to rebuild structures in the province is failing miserably, proven by the fact that it has contested and lost every single by-election in the province since April 2009. With nothing but a dismal record in government in this province to fall back on, it's lashing out with the only weapon it has left: the race card.

I again call on Mr. Mdladlana, as I have already done once before, to pick his party up out of the gutter. Contest the upcoming elections based on what it has to offer the electorate, as the DA will do. Stop resorting to race. Help build one nation, one with one future. Do not divide our people.

The ANC has been caught at its own dirty tricks, and must now do the right thing: Mr. Mdladlana must apologise to the voters of our province, and the Western Cape ANC must pay back the R720,000, spent by the Western Cape provincial government to investigate a very serious allegation, which turned out to be nothing but a baseless ANC smear.

Statement issued by Grant Pascoe, DA Cape Town Metro Regional Chairperson, April 20 2010
