Murder of HRH Prince MMM Zulu tragic - Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi

Brutal act reminds us yet again of the extreme levels of violence that plague our country

On the tragic loss of HRH Prince MMM Zulu

25 November 2022

His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini and the Zulu Royal Family were distraught last night to learn of the brutal murder of His Royal Highness Prince Mbongiseni Milton Muntukaphiwana Zulu by unidentified gunmen, near his residence in Nongoma.

As the traditional Prime Minister to the Zulu Monarch and Nation, and as a relative of Prince MMM Zulu, I am deeply pained by this loss. I have not only known Prince Zulu all his life, but have served with him in Parliament where he represented the Inkatha Freedom Party as a Member of the National Council of Provinces.

I thus also speak on behalf of the IFP’s Parliamentary Caucus, which I lead, in expressing condolences to the Zulu Royal Family and the Nation. We have lost a great servant of the people. At the time of his passing, Prince Zulu was serving as Chief Whip at the Zululand District Municipality. He maintained a lifelong commitment to serving the needs of our people.

My most profound sympathies are with his immediate family, his wife and children.

This is a devastating loss to the Zulu nation and to the whole of South Africa. It reminds us yet again of the extreme levels of violence that plague our country. We pray for God’s intervention, and for swift action by the South African Police Service in investigating this murder and making arrests.

May HRH Prince MMM Zulu rest in peace.

Issued by Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, Traditional Prime Minister to the Zulu Monarch and Nation and Leader of the IFP’s Parliamentary Caucus, 25 November 2022
