Phase 1 of CIPRO ECM delayed to March 2010 - Keith Sendwe

CEO says the development of the e-CIPRO solution is well advanced

Final implementation of e-CIPRO Phase 1 slightly delayed but speedier service delivery now ‘just around the corner'

Johannesburg, Thursday, 19 November 2009 As a result of technical constraints - especially as they pertain to the rendering of services by the Companies and Intellectual Property Registration Office (CIPRO) to the public - it was deemed prudent to postpone the implementation of e-CIPRO Phase 1, the workflow and document management system of the organisation, to March 2010.

According to CIPRO CEO Keith Sendwe, the high-tech, new workflow and document management system will speed up CIPRO's service delivery to its customers significantly.

He says the postponement in implementing e-CIPRO Phase 1 was largely as a result of the implementation of a number of additional fraud prevention initiatives, and particularly efforts aimed at ensuring a secure and trustworthy online payment solution for services to the public. When implemented in March 2010, CIPRO will be the first in Government to have implemented Service Orientated Architecture (SOA) based Government Wide Enterprise Architecture (GWEA) and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) using SAPO's Certified Authority (CA). This will have to be extensively tested and vetted, even by the Auditor General before it will be made available for use by the public.

Despite this delay the development of the e-CIPRO solution is well advanced, and once it is ready, it will replace the current manual process of registering a Company, Close Corporation or Cooperative.  Sendwe says it will be fully implemented in a controlled phased approach once the payment solution has been approved.

The new CIPRO Intranet and CIPRO portal (www.cipro.gov.za) have also been revamped and both look slicker and will be much faster than the current site. The public can look forward to the release of the new CIPRO portal towards the beginning of December 2009.
