Policeman bust selling mine explosives - SAPS

Suspect arrived at meeting with agent in full uniform

POLICEMAN ARRESTED FOR DEALING IN MINE EXPLOSIVES

Three weeks ago the Hawks and Crime Intelligence began an investigation after receiving information about a syndicate dealing in mine explosives in Sasolburg, Free State. The explosives are commonly used by criminals to conduct ATM bombings.

Our agents ordered explosives from a suspected member of a syndicate.

Today, a meeting was scheduled between our agent and the dealer to honour a second order. A policeman in full uniform, using a police car showed up to deliver the explosives. He was immediately arrested and taken to custody. The explosives he delivered were confiscated. The suspect is to be charged with being in possession and dealing in explosives.

He will be kept in detention for 48 hours before appearing in Court.

Over 200 police officers have been arrested since the beginning of the year. The SAPS is determined to root out corrupt elements within its ranks.
