1690.   Ms N W A Mazzone (DA) to ask the Minister of Finance:

Whether a certain person (name furnished) whose name was added to a list of potential new jet fuel suppliers for SA Airways in 2015, is related in any way to the President of the Republic, Mr Jacob G Zuma; if so, what is the nature of their relationship?

REPLY:

The following information was submitted by South African Airways (SAA):

SAA can confirm that Mr. Sizwe Zuma has been included on the list of potential new jet fuel suppliers who were invited to the Supplier Engagement Summit.  However, SAA is not privy to the information as to whether he is or is not related to the President, as soliciting such detail isn’t part of the Standard Operating Procedure, which is PFMA-based.  Supplier Engagement Summits are an acceptable business practice.

In general being listed on the supplier database is by no means a guarantee that a company will be awarded a contract, as normal procurement processes apply to everyone, including those companies not listed on the
