Parliament completes election of new chairpersons
8 Feb 2011
Professor Ben Turok was earlier today elected co-chairperson of Parliament's joint committee on ethics and members' interests.
The position is one of the posts that became vacant after last year's Cabinet reshuffle that saw a number of chairpersons being appointed to the Cabinet.
The Joint Committee's co-chair Mr Luwellyn Landers was elected Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development.
"I will give a lot of energy to this committee. The image of Parliament is important especially considering the United Kingdom incident where MPs ended up in prison. We have to uphold the good public image of our Parliament," said Professor Turok.
Prof Turok will co-chair the committee with Mr Buoang Mashile from the National Council of Provinces.
