Zille's remarks on Hawks mischievous - The Presidency

Mac Maharaj says Anwa Dramat was not investigating anything relating to President Zuma's Nkandla residence

Western Cape Premier's utterances

21 January 2015

The Presidency wishes to raise a serious concern about continued utterances by the Premier of the Western Cape, Ms Helen Zille, which insinuate that the head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (The Hawks), Mr Anwar Dramat, has been suspended by the SAPS because he was investigating or planning to investigate matters related to the Nkandla residence of the President.

The SAPS has indicated a few times that Mr Dramat was not investigating anything related to the residence. The on-going comments by Premier Zille, which are designed to drag the President into an employer-employee matter at SAPS are incorrect, mischievous and irresponsible.

Statement issued by Mac Maharaj, The Presidency, Pretoria, July 21 2015
