The YCLSA condemns attempts to isolate Jewish boys speaking out against Israel
August 12, 2014
The Young Communist League of South Africa (uFasimba) adds its voice to the growing condemnation of the South African Zionist community who are hell-bent on persecuting the three Jewish boys for supporting Palestinians.
The crime these three boys committed was posing for a picture wearing the traditional keffiyeh in support of Palestine at the World Debating Championship in Thailand, showing their solidarity for the more than 1900 Palestinians-mostly civilians- killed in Gaza in recent weeks by Israel.
Instead of being proud that these Jewish boys are standing up against injustice and oppression, South African Zionists have sworn at them, threatened violence and warn they might strip Joshua Broomberg of his Deputy Head Boy position at King David Victory Park High School.
We are not surprised by the South African Zionists attempts to silence free speech and isolate people within the Jewish community who fight against injustice. Cde Ruth First, the first National Secretary of the YCLSA and other Jewish comrades were persecuted during the struggle against South African apartheid by the South African Jewish Board of Deputies (SAJBD) for standing up against white oppressors.
