Mohlala 'released' from her contract - Nyanda

Communications minister says relationship with DG has broken down irretrievably

Termination of Employment of Ms Mamodupi Mohlala as Director General of the Department

The Department of Communications has been facing a number of challenges recently relating to internal processes and procedure.

The Minister of Communications General Siphiwe Nyanda and the Deputy Minister Ms Dina Pule met with the Director General Ms Mamodupi Mohlala to resolve these issues as they threatened the day to day operations of the department and had sought to impact negatively on the image of the organisation.

In the process of trying to find solutions to the challenges, it subsequently became apparent that trust between the Minister and the Director General has broken down irretrievably.

In the interests of the Department, the staff and the government, the Minister has come to the conclusion that it would be best to release Ms Mohlala from her position as Director General with effect from 23 July 2010.

In the interim period the Minister has appointed Dr Harold Wesso as Acting Director General to ensure that the work of the department is not negatively affected by these developments.

The Minister wishes Ms Mohlala well in the future.
