"Senzo Meyiwa killed!" - Daily Sun

"Captain of both club and country was at his girlfriend's home" - front page lead, October 27 2014

Daily Sun (October 27 2014) - ORLANDO Pirates and Bafana Bafana captain, Senzo Meyiwa, was shot and killed in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, last night. At the time of going to press, details were still sketchy as to what exactly transpired.

ACCORDING TO UNCONFIRMED REPORTS, MEYIWA (27)  WAS AT HIS GIRLFRIEND'S HOME IN VOSLOORUS WHEN THE INCIDENT HAPPENED.

Pirates' Lucky Lekgwathi confirmed the sad news to Daily Sun that Meyiwa was involved in a fatal shooting.

Meyiwa was apparently travelling with Sello Chicco Twala's son Longwe, at the time of the incident.

"I cannot stop crying. I hope this is just a bad dream. "I'm devastated because I was with him on Saturday at our match against Ajax Cape Town.

"This is a tragedy for Pirates and the whole of South Africa," said Lekgwathi.

Meyiwa had recently won the Bafana number one jersey after good performances for the national team. In the
three matches he's played for Bafana under Shakes Mashaba in the 2015 Afcon qualifiers, he did not concede a single goal.

Meyiwa's last match for the Buccaneers was on Saturday against Ajax.

He helped Pirates qualify for the semi-finals of the Telkom Knockout.

Daily Sun understands that two men who are believed to be hit men allegedly stormed Kelly Khumalo's home and shot the Orlando Pirates goalkeeper.

"We have to break normal protocol. We can confirm that Bucs keeper Senzo Meyiwa has been shot and sadly declared dead on arrival at hospital," said the SA Police Services official Twitter feed.

There were seven people inside the house.

Two suspects went into the house, one remained outside. The three fled on foot after the shooting.

The incident happened at around 8pm, at Zamo Section in Vosloorus.

Reward of up to R150 000 is on offer for any information that can lead to arrest, the SA Police Services confirmed .
