"Wedding shame!" - Daily Sun

"The ceremony was in full swing but no one could have predicted what was to come" - front page lead, May 19 2015

Daily Sun (May 19 2015) - THE PASTOR asked whether there was anybody who objected to the marriage.

The ex-wife jumped up and shouted: “Yes, I object!”

THEN SHE STARTED DISHING THE ALLEGED DIRT ABOUT THE FORMER ANC BIGWIG.

Humphrey Mokgobi, a former Member of Parliament, called his wife a restless dog after she caused a scene during his wedding ceremony at the God Reign International Church in Flora Park, Tzaneen, in Limpopo on Sunday afternoon.

A wedding instruction reads: “If anyone can show just cause why this couple cannot lawfully be joined together in matrimony, let them speak now or forever hold their peace.”

These days it is often left out of wedding ceremonies, but not this time. When the pastor asked the question, Matshidiso Mathabatha (43), Mokgobi’s ex-wife, approached the podium.

Not only did she object, she also accused Mokgobi of not having the interests of his children at heart. She claimed Mokgobi didn’t pay papgeld for the kids he had with her before their marriage fell apart.

“I have no intention of disturbing the wedding, but as you carry on to your wonderful lunch, you must remember that you have children who also need to be fed.”

She left the podium to boos and hisses from the wedding guests, and the wedding continued.

Speaking to Daily Sun later, Matshidiso claimed Mokgobi has neglected his children for many years.

“He grew too big for his boots when he rose to national politics as an MP in Cape Town. Then he started behaving like a puppy, hopping from one girl to another,” she claimed. She soon left the party.

Mokgobi told Daily Sun he takes good care of his kids aged 14 and 16.

“I give my ex-wife money for my kids every month,” he said.

He claimed Matshidiso was a professional prostitute and when he was away from Cape Town, rented out her body to young politicians and emerging entrepreneurs.

He claimed her bad behaviour started in 2007 when doctors declared him diabetic.

“Then she started behaving like a restless dog that wanted to donate her forbidden fruit in winter,” he said.

“Months later, she started sleeping in her own house and denied me my rights as a husband.”

He claimed that was when he went in search of romance and met businesswoman Suzan Khosa of Vhimbani Security and Catering Company from N’wamitwa, outside Tzaneen.

Matshidiso said Mokgobi was making up stories that she was sleeping with comrades.

“Let him say whatever he wants. I have had my say on the podium. Whatever he says doesn’t matter.”

Mokgobi was chairman of the portfolio committee on corporate governance and former ANC Mopani regional chairman and executive mayor.
