ANC CONDEMNS ACT OF SABOTAGE AT TRANSNET

The African National Congress (ANC) strongly condemns this morning's (12 May 2010) violent and irresponsible act of sabotage, which led to the derailment of a train transporting fuel from Durban to the inland market.  It has been reported that about 10,000 litres of diesel spilled when the freight train derailed.

We call on the police to leave no stone unturned in tracking down, arresting and charging anyone behind this despicable act of sabotage, which is not only negatively affecting the transportation of goods but geared to destroy our economy.

Bargaining by workers for higher wages - as seen at Transnet - is a legitimate and legal process allowed in any industry, but it does not give anybody a right to engage in any acts of sabotage.
