ANC fails disabled learners – DA NWest

Party says it had to intervene at a school where there is a complete lack of support

DA to intervene at school where ANC fails disabled learners

28 June 2018

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in North West is concerned with the Department of Social Development’s complete lack of support and assistance to the Boichoko Center for the disabled near Taung. See photos herehere and here.

During our oversight inspection to the center today, we were informed that the Department has threatened to close it down.

This is the only facility that offers sign language to disabled learners coming from the different villages in Taung.

We will now write to Hofmann Galeng, the North West MEC for Social Development and argue against the closing of the center. We will also request financial and professional support to Boichoko Centre.

Boichoko provides special education to 27 children who come from the most disadvantaged families in Taung and the school receives no financial or professional support from the Department of Social Development.

It is a disgrace that, despite previous requests from the DA, this center has been operating for the last four years without any help or financial subsidy.

Boichoko is a sad example of how social welfare facilities in the North West suffer under the ANC goverment.

The DA has made a commitment to the parents and roleplayers that we will stop at nothing to ensure that this center gets the financial subsidies and acknowledgement to continue the unique service they render to our communities.

The ANC is failing the most vulnerable people in our communities. Taung needs change and a caring, pro-active government that supports welfare facilities.
