ANC NWC "supports" Motlanthe's decision to remove Pikoli

Statement issued by national spokesperson Jessie Duarte December 8 2008

ANC REACTION TO THE DECISION BY PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC ON NPA DIRECTOR VUSI PIKOLI

The ANC National Working Committee (NWC), meeting today (8 December 2008) at Chief Albert Luthuli House, has noted the decision (see here) by the President of the Republic, Kgalema Motlanthe, not to reinstate suspended National Director of Public Prosecutions Vusi Pikoli.

The ANC further notes that not only was the decision in line with the provisions of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Act, but that President Motlanthe took due consideration of the Ginwala Commission Report.

We support the decision in terms of fairness to Pikoli, who was afforded an opportunity to state his case. The decision was also based on adherence to ethics and good corporate governance.
