ANC wins two seats off DA in WCape by-elections – IEC

Party also wins a seat off the IFP in KZN, retains five other seats

Results of the Municipal By-Elections held on 12 December 2018

During the by-elections contested yesterday in the Gauteng, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, North West and Western Cape provinces, the African National Congress (ANC) retained five seats and won three seats and the Democratic Alliance (DA) retained one seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections.

The new councillors for the ANC are:

Fanafuth Enock Hlatshwayo in Ward 19 in Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality – TSH. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, with 63.88% of the votes cast compared to 79.09% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 22.75%.

Mongezi Eugene Nkephu in Ward 23 in Alfred Duma Municipality – KZN238. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, with 50.13% of the votes cast compared to 51.86% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 55.85%.

Erick Ntuli in Ward 12 in Mtubatuba Municipality – KZN275. The party won the seat from the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), with 56.02% of the votes cast compared to 58.02% that the IFP received in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 64.27%.

Kgadile September Majadibody in Ward 10 in Mogalakwena Municipality – LIM367. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, with 73.62% of the votes cast compared to 47.80% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 44.53%.

Thabo Edmond Modisane in Ward 4 in Ramotshere Moiloa Municipality – NW385. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, with 70.52% of the votes cast compared to 54.21% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 35.65%.

Yousuf Suliman in Ward 16 in Ramotshere Moiloa Municipality – NW385. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, with 42.80% of the votes cast compared to 31.60% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 27.68%.

Mathilda Michelle Bains in Ward 6 in Matzikama Municipality – WC011. The party won the seat from the DA with 49.54% of the votes cast compared to 56.84% that the DA received in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 50.73%.

Paulus Jacobus Strauss in Ward 4 in Cederberg Municipality – WC012. The party won the seat from the DA with 49.19% of the votes cast compared to 67.44% that the DA received in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 59.19%.

The new councillor for the DA is:

Andre Brahm Truter in Ward 14 in Saldanha Bay Municipality – WC014. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, with 88.96% of the votes cast compared to 84.10% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 32.29%.
