KZN reshuffle won’t fix what the ANC has broken

Reports that allege the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Senzo Mchunu, is facing the axe comes as no surprise to the DA who has long held that he has been more preoccupied with internal factional battles rather than delivering the basic services the ANC government in KZN promised to when he was elected.

This latest reshuffle is a symptom of an ANC in KZN struggling for relevance ahead of a tough local government election scheduled for August this year.

- These reports allege that Premier Mchunu was told to resign or reshuffle his cabinet. Also facing the axe are:

- Economic Development MEC, Mike Mabuyakhulu; 

- Sport and Recreation MEC, Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha; 

- Agriculture MEC, Cyril Xaba; and

- Education MEC Nelisiwe Peggy Nkonyeni.

Former KZN SACP Chairperson, Willies Mchunu, is alleged to have been tipped for the Premiership despite being embroiled in numerous factional battles that will likely continue under his premiership.

For too long ANC factional battles have been allowed to destabilise the province. Violent protests have ensued that have that have led to the damaging of property and service delivery being halted. The people of KZN deserve better and they can have better.

Where the DA governs we have proven that we govern better for the people in the community and we look forward to bringing the DA difference to many more municipalities in 2016 and many more provinces in 2019.

It is time for the people of KZN to see what the ANC really stands for. The leaders are greedy and power hungry. They put their needs and self-interest ahead of the needs of the people of KZN.

The people of KZN deserve better. It is time to vote for change. The DA is ready and willing to offer good governance that is free from corruption, creates jobs and delivers better services for all.
