COPE disturbed at possibility of foul play in James Nkambule's death

Party says it will keep a watchful eye on investigation to ensure no cover up takes place

COPE Statement on possible foul play in James Nkambule's death

The Congress of the People is disturbed to learn that the death of James Nkambule may have been a murder (see autopsy report). The party is mindful of the late Nkambule's role in exposing corruption in Mpumalanga and his identification of key ANC political leaders allegedly involved in these corrupt activities. COPE calls on the SAPS to investigate this death properly and to deploy all the necessary resources to ascertain whether his death was in fact a murder.

COPE will keep a watchful eye on this investigation to ensure that there is no cover up. For far too long, Mpumalanga has been the home and base to gangsters, thieves and allegedly murderers masquerading as politicians. These must be exposed and dealt with harshly in terms of the law.

Statement issued by Phillip Dexter, COPE head of communications, October 18 2010
