Fronting must be criminalized - SACP

Party urges govt to finalise the requisite provisions in the law

SACP STATEMENT ON BEE FRONTING

The SACP notes and welcomes the announcement by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Cde Rob Davies, in relation to clamping down on fronting.

The SACP urges government to move with the necessary speed to finalise provisions in law that allows for fronting to be criminalized. We welcome government's decision to appoint a commissioner to deal with this scourge.

Fronting is one of the biggest problems we currently experience and it inhibits the necessary task of empowering our people. In fronting one presents himself/herself wrongly, thus being dishonest. Falsifying ones credentials and claiming to poses skills that one does not poses cannot be allowed.

Equally those who are involved in fronting are by their actions acting against the challenge of the transformation of the colonial character of the South African economy. Such levels of dishonesty such as fronting are nothing but corruption. Those who are involved in fronting are merely reproducing a parasitic, compradorial and colonial type relation between black sections of the capitalist class and the established capital.

We have seen in our communities people with no skill in mining, construction and other highly specialized industries become millioners overnight. How can a teacher or a nurse or an unemployed activist achieve such success without operational know how of the sector? The SACP calls on government to act decisively and criminalise fronting. Furthermore government should investigate the nature and extent of the practice and act against those found involved.
