If Zuma loves SA, he must step down - Pretoria #ZumaMustFall marchers

Pretoria - Organisers of the #ZumaMustFall march in Pretoria on Thursday added their voices to the call that President Jacob Zuma put the interests of the country first and resign.

"If he really loves this country, then tonight he should say I'm stepping down," spokesperson Martin Masango said.

"South Africa is not reaching its potential because of him."

The march in Pretoria, which turned into a picket, was just one of many throughout the country, where people have taken to the streets ahead of the State of the Nation Address in Parliament. The picket in Pretoria was poorly attended, with less than 20 people holding placards and calling for Zuma's removal.

Masango said they chose Thursday, the day of the SONA, to express their dissatisfaction.

"It should be the Save our Nation Address because it is clear that Jacob Zuma has failed to discharge his duties as a president. From Schabir Shaik, Guptagate, Nkandla and to his latest shenanigans with removing the former finance minister Nhlanhla Nene," he said.

Masango added that the picket was not an attack on the ANC, as there were members from all parties within their movement, but merely a call to remove one man.

"He has brought the country to a decisive point where fellow South Africans don't view one another as South Africans, but based on the colour of their skin. This is a leadership we don't want. If Thabo Mbeki could be removed for more minor crimes than Mr Zuma, why can't they recall him? He must go," said Masango.
