Jiba to make representations to Zuma

26 October 2016

Johannesburg – Acting National Director of Public Prosecutions Nomgcobo Jiba has instructed her lawyer to make representations to President Jacob Zuma against her suspension.

“She received the instruction and welcomed it,” Zola Majavu said on Wednesday.

He said he was already working on her submissions to Zuma. They would wait for his response before commenting.

Zuma on Tuesday announced his intention to suspend Jiba and her National Prosecuting Authority colleague Lawrence Mrwebi.

“The President has requested the two advocates to provide him with reasons as to why they cannot be suspended pending the outcome of the inquiry into their fitness to hold office,” the Presidency said in a statement.

The High Court in Pretoria ruled on September 15 that Jiba and Mrwebi’s names be struck off the roll of advocates.

The General Council of the Bar brought the application, following their handling of cases involving former KwaZulu-Natal Hawks head Johan Booysen and former police crime intelligence head Richard Mdluli.
