Makhura's attack on Mashaba shows ANC is panicking

24 May 2016

Yesterday, Gauteng Premier David Makhura, launched a bizarre attack on the the DA's mayoral candidate, Herman Mashaba.

Makhura's attack on Mashaba shows that the ANC in Gauteng is panicking about losing Johannesburg to the DA. According to the ANC's own research, the party's support in Johannesburg has dropped to 37%. As one ANC leader said:  "We looked at those figures and said what do we need to do ... it is worrying."

In his desperation, the Premier has resorted to personal attacks on Herman Mashaba. What Makhura should be doing is telling the residents of Zandspruit and other poor communities how he is going to deliver the services they are on the streets protesting for. Furthermore, Makhura should be telling people how he will stop the jobs bloodbath in Johannesburg, where 869 000 people are now unemployed.

The ANC is full of career politicians who only know how to put themselves first. Herman Mashaba, on the other hand, is a self-made entrepreneur who knows how to run and manage a successful organisation. That is how he was able to build 'Black Like Me' haircare products into a multi-million rand enterprise with a R30,000 loan.

Herman Mashaba has a plan for Johannesburg. By assisting entrepreneurs in starting and growing businesses, aiding job seekers, cutting wasteful expenditure, and enhancing service delivery he will create thousands of jobs in Johannesburg and restore the dignity of so many residents who have been left behind.

While the ANC resorts to petty insults, we will be taking our message of hope and change to every community in our beloved city.
