Marius Fransman a political bankrupt - Ivan Meyer

DA WCape leader says his counterpart's offer of money for votes a sign of how low enthusiasm levels are for the ANC in the province

ANC WC's buying of support a sign of political bankruptcy

01 February 2015

The political bankruptcy of Marius Fransman and the Western Cape ANC has once again been exposed today.

This follows reports of Fransman offering large sums of money to Cape Minstrel groups in exchange for supporting the ANC in the 2014 elections.

It is reported that the Cape District Minstrel Board were offered up to R1 million by Fransman to persuade them to campaign for the ANC, perform at President Zuma's birthday rally and take up party membership.

The fact that the ANC now resorts to offering money in exchange for support shows how low enthusiasm levels for the party have become.

Fransman's actions are those of a desperate politician who will lie, incite protest and bribe his way to obtaining the results that he could not otherwise obtain at the ballot box.

His most recent attempt to buy the support of the Cape Minstrels is only one such an example. Shortly after election 2011, the Western Cape ANC under the leadership of Fransman, launched Project Reclaim - a coordinated attempt to bribe DA ward councillors to give up their seats and run on ANC tickets in by-elections.

Despite these tactics, the people of this province have repeatedly proven that they do not fall for the ANC's dirty politics.

Having experienced life under both the ANC and the DA, voters in the Western Cape are increasingly endorsing good governance, upping the DA's mandate from 51.4% in 2009 to 59% in 2014.

Rather than financial shortcuts, voters care most about good governance, clean and transparent administration, and improved services.

Voters have not forgotten that by the time the ANC reached their final year in government in the Western Cape, service delivery was at a low and not a single Department was able to achieve a clean audit.

Given this record it is not surprising that Marius Fransman cannot act with integrity during election campaigns. Voters now have even further reason to believe that the ANC will not be any better in government after an election.
