Johannesburg - Former President Thabo Mbeki is on Tuesday expected to meet with the ANC’s Gauteng Mayoral candidates on the back of hobnobbing with Economic Freedom Fighter’s top brass on Monday.

The meetings are on the eve of the local government elections on Wednesday, with millions expected to cast their ballots at the polls.

The ANC confirmed that he will meet City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality’s Parks Tau, City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality candidate Thoko Didiza and Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality candidate Mzwandile Masina at his home in Johannesburg.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, EFF leader Julius Malema said that the talks had centred on "the future of Africa & our country".

He said that he had asked Mbeki to vote for the EFF, with the official reason for the meeting remaining unknown.
