SASCO corrupt dealings exposed at Fort Hare – DA

Leaders personally selling residence rooms to students

SASCO corrupt dealings exposed at Fort Hare

18 April 2016

The Democratic Alliance has exposed the widespread corrupt dealings of ANC-aligned SASCO at the University of Fort Hare. The DA discovered that leaders from SASCO and the ANCYL from the university have been personally selling residence rooms to students who have not gone through the residential application process and have not paid the university for their rooms.

In my possession I have proof that payment was made by a student to a SASCO leader in exchange for a room in a residence.

This comes ahead of the highly contested University of Fort Hare SRC elections that will be taking place later this week. It has become clear that ANC corruption has spilled over into student politics and is being driven by an organisation that is in trouble of becoming irrelevant.

SASCO cannot be trusted, they are stealing from students to provide to those who are politically connected. Ultimately,  SASCO is hurting the very people they are pretending to represent.

The DA will be laying criminal charges against residence manager, Thobela Heshula together with the SASCO leaders implicated, and views this as a serious offence against all students at the University of Fort Hare.

DASO has proved that we are the only party that can deliver for all, regardless of political affiliation and we will continue to fight corruption in all forms.
