Save SA CEOs 'wolves in sheep's clothing' – Gauteng ANCYL

Johannesburg - The ANC Youth League in Gauteng has slammed the Save SA campaign, saying its leaders have done little to uplift the poor in the country.

The provincial youth league on Thursday said there was a "co-ordinated onslaught" against the ANC "led by white monopoly capital".

"We find this sudden conscious [sic] by the private sector in the country surprising," provincial chairperson Matome Chiloane said.

"When the very private sector has had to be begged just to lift a finger in the [country's] socioeconomic development initiatives.

"They've had to be forced through government policy to transform their company organograms and spend towards enterprise and skills development."

Chiloane accused the various CEOs involved in the Save SA campaign of funding opposition parties and using their own media platforms to slander the party.

Demanding resignation

"To date continuous begging is taking place for them to assist government to pay for free education," he continued.

He said the "wolves in sheep clothing" should put their money where their mouths are and fund free education for the youth and help develop black entrepreneurs.

Supporters of the civil society campaign marched in Pretoria on Wednesday in support of Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan.

CEOs, citizens, religious leaders and struggle stalwarts met at St Alban's Cathedral to demand the resignation of President Jacob Zuma.

Zuma, represented by his legal team, was in court at the time to argue for an interdict against the release of former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's report into state capture.

Zuma eventually withdrew his application to interdict the report, which was then released to the public at 16:30.
