Surprise Khwezi protest should never happen again - top cop
24 August 2016
Cape Town – Police were looking at finding ways to make sure they were never surprised by a "Remember Khwezi"-like protest again, acting national commissioner Khomotso Phahlane told Parliament on Wednesday.
Phahlane was briefing the police committee on their plans and deployment of officers during the local government elections.
He was asked to provide details on the "security breach" which occurred when a group of women protesting against rape disrupted President Jacob Zuma’s speech at the IEC’s results centre on Saturday, August 6.
"It was so spontaneous. There is a commitment we made to look into the details and to find ways of not having a recurrence of such," Phahlane told the committee.
