DA Leader in Gauteng says the people of Joburg voted for change and he wishes new Johannesburg Executive all the best

Joburg voted for change

23 August 2016

On behalf of the Democratic Alliance in Gauteng, I wish to congratulate, the new Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Herman Mashaba on his election victory last night.

Mashaba was elected by a combined vote of most opposition parties.

Herman’s election came at a difficult time for the entire council, when proceedings were interrupted by the sudden passing away of ANC Cllr Nonhlanhla Mthembu. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, loved ones, and the ANC.

I also wish to extend my warmest congratulations to the newly elected Speaker of the council, Cllr Vasco Da Gama and the Chief Whip, Dr Kevin Wax.

The residents of Joburg have voted for change on the 3rd of August and the DA in Gauteng and the metros we govern will deliver on that mandate to cut corruption, create jobs and deliver services for all.

Wishing the new Johannesburg Executive, all the best into their new term of office.

Issued by John Moodey, DA Leader in Gauteng, 23 August 2016
