Winnie Mandela and NPA continue to hound cops - DA

Kate Lorimer says charges brought against Odendaal and Twala for a third time

Winnie Mandela and NPA on cop witch hunt

I find it inconceivable that Winnie Madikizela Mandela and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) are trying to prosecute Jannie Odendaal and Abel Twala for a third time.

If the NPA believes it has a case against the policemen, they must make the evidence available to the public. If there was not enough evidence to charge Madikizela Mandela and her bodyguards, how can there be enough evidence to charge the policemen? As far as we are aware, there were no witnesses.

On 30 December 2010 the two policemen stopped a car in which Madikizela Mandela and her bodyguards were travelling and charged them with reckless and negligent driving.

Madikizela Mandela then laid counter charges.

The NPA refused to prosecute Madikizela Mandela and her bodyguards, yet insisted on charging the two policemen.

It seems the NPA are taking orders from political masters. This is just one more incident in an on-going saga in which the management and credibility of the NPA are being drawn into question.

Madikizela Mandela must realise that she too is subject to the laws of our country, and not above them.
