ANC national officials intervene in North West

Gwede Mantashe says removal of five members of the PEC was unconstitutional

ANC STATEMENT ON THE NORTH WEST PROVINCE

The National Officials of the African National Congress will be meeting with the Provincial Officials of the ANC in the North West Province tomorrow, 19 June 2012 (see here).  This follows a meeting that was held over the weekend that resulted in the unconstitutional removal of the Provincial Chairperson, Supra Mahumapelo, the Provincial Treasurer Philly Mapolane, the Deputy Provincial Secretary Gordon Kegakilwe, the Provincial Spokesperson Kenny Morolong and a PEC member Matthew Wolmarans.

The ANC calls on the structures of the ANC in the North West Province to desist from activities of this nature which have the potential of bringing instability, undermine our leadership in society and as well as bring the name of the organisation into disrepute.

The National Officials and the NEC deployees in the North West fully recognize the PEC as elected in the last North West Provincial Conference in 2011.  We call upon all structures in the North West to equally recognize the PEC as such.  The ANC will make further public comments on the matter after the scheduled tomorrow.

Statement issued by Gwede Mantashe, ANC Secretary General, June 18 2012
