COMMITTEE NOT IMPRESSED BY REQUEST TO POSTPONE INQUIRY

Parliament, 14 October 2014 - The Portfolio Committee on Communications is not impressed by a request by the South African Broadcasting Corporation Chairperson, Ms Zandile Tshabalala, to postpone the inquiry into allegations that she misrepresented her qualifications to Parliament.

Speaking through her legal representative, Adv Norman Arendse (SC), Ms Tshabalala told the Committee that she was not ready to proceed with the inquiry and that she needed another two weeks to prepare a response on the two charges put to her.

However, the Committee has resolved to postpone the inquiry to a date that will first be discussed and confirmed by its members.

"Although we have a tight programme with other Committee activities, it is in the interest of natural justice that we postpone this inquiry to a date that will be confirmed by the Committee," said Ms Joyce Moloi-Moropa, Committee
