COSATU stands by statements on SA Zionist Federation

Federation notes criticism by Jewish organisations, stands by everything said in letter to Shembe Church

COSATU stands firm on Palestine people's rights

The Congress of South African Trade Unions notes the letter, dated July 31 2012, from the SA Jewish Board of Deputies, SA Zionist Federation and Office of the Chief Rabbi to COSATU General Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi, concerning COSATU's letter to Reverend Inkosi Phakama Shembe, spiritual leader of the Shembe Church, dated 27 June 2012.

The COSATU National Spokesperson was articulating the long-held views of the federation, condemning the role of the Israeli state towards the people of Palestine and their legitimate demands for national independence and freedom. We note the letter's contents and assertions but stand by everything we said in the letter to the Shembe Church.

Statement issued by Patrick Craven, COSATU national spokesperson, August 3 2012
