ANC CONDEMNS THE RUTHLESS KILLING OF ITS LEADERS

10 September 2012

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal is shocked and saddened by the killing of its two branch leaders on the Lower South Coast Region this past Sunday night.

The Oshabeni Branch Chairperson, Comrade Dumisani Malunga, and Secretary, Comrade Bheki Chiliza, were sprayed with a hail of bullets while driving back from an ANC meeting.

The regular killing of ANC leaders in KwaZulu-Natal is of grave concern.

"We are very concerned with the killing of our comrades. This is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated.  We would like to express shock and disgust at the latest killing and we would also like to send our condolences to members of their families," said ANC Provincial Secretary, Sihle Zikalala.

Comrade Wandile Mkhize, and his friend Nhlakanipho Shabane, were also victims of a drive-by shooting in Manaba, Margate, on July 30.  Mkhize died at the scene and Shabane died in hospital three weeks after the attack.

The ANC calls on the police to leave no stone unturned in investigating the cold blooded murder of our comrades. The ANC is also pleading with the community to assist police officers with any information regarding the perpetrators.
