AfriForum Youth takes top positions in Tuks SRC elections

AfriForum Youth announced today that they won the top spots in the Student Representative Council during the elections of 17 October at the University of Pretoria. These include the President and Secretary. The AfriForum Youth candidates drew 15 366 votes overall, while the DA managed 9 627 votes.

"The result shows once again that students are aware of the good work AfriForum Youth does throughout the year to protect students' rights. Students trust us to represent their interests at the highest level of student management," said Eduan Dupper, spokesperson for AfriForum Youth Tuks.

AfriForum Youth took two additional portfolios and an ex officio position, which brings the number of AfriForum Youth representatives to five.

"This is the third year running where AfriForum Youth managed to draw the majority of the votes," said Dupper.

The 2013 SRC elections were the first to take place under the new constitution.

"The SRC is elected for students by students. We will ensure that their interests are protected and that equal opportunities are created for all students," said Enwee Human, the newly elected SRC President.

"It is great to see the support amongst young people for AfriForum," said Kallie Kriel, CEO of AfriForum.

AfriForum Youth will ensure that they live up to their election promises: the expansion of mother tongue education, protection of healthy student traditions and the eradication of racial profiling, and hold the SRC accountable.
