EFF STATEMENT ON THE ANC PROPOSAL TO CRIMINALIZE RACISM
05 January 2016
The EFF notes that the ANC has acceded to the EFF Elections Manifesto demand that racism must be criminalized. In its 2014 Elections Manifesto the EFF clearly states that, "The EFF Government will criminalise all forms of racism and tribalism and run a programme to enlighten people that we are one people with a common vision and destiny."
The EFF went further to propose several times through Notices of Motion and Motions without Notice in Parliament that there must be criminalization of racism. In many instances, the ANC rejected these motions.
This demonstrates that ANC lacks ideological foresight, particularly around questions of anti-black racism. It also confirms that the EFF is a leader of society which consequently also leads the ANC in ideological solutions to problems that confront society.
Racism must be criminalized and punishable with imprisonment.
