ANC attempts to bribe councillors in hung KZN municipalities - Zwakele Mncwango

DA says party stalking their councillors, calling them day and night and even showing up at their homes

DA condemns ANC’s attempts to bribe DA councillors in hung KZN municipalities

22 August 2016

The DA in KwaZulu Natal strongly condemns the ANC’s corrupt tactics to get into power in hung local municipalities.

Despite a decision by voters to dismantle the ANC in some municipalities by not giving them an outright majority, the party is still fighting tooth and nail to cling onto power.

The DA has learnt that ANC leaders are stalking our councillors, calling them day and night, and even arriving unannounced at their homes. They have also offered them bribes and other benefits.

Our disciplined councillors have all declined these offers and by doing so, have put their lives at risk. They are now living in fear as they have been threatened with death.

It cannot be right that people are being forced by a gun to vote with a party of thugs that has neglected voters, failed to improve people’s lives and now wants to cling into power even after the people have voted for change.

We call upon the ANC provincial leaders to show leadership by calling into order its power hungry members and to accordingly allow democratic processes to continue fairly.
