ANC retains 5 wards in by-elections

Party says results show that it retains overwhelming confidence of our people

ANC STATEMENT ON BY-ELECTIONS HELD ON 2 APRIL 2014

The African National Congress welcomes the results of the by-elections held in 9 wards in the Eastern Cape, Free State, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and North West Provinces yesterday, 2 March 2014. The results of the by-elections once again sent a clear message of the overwhelming confidence our people have in the ANC as a result of the daily reality they see which is an improvement in the lives of many across the country.

The ANC retained all 5 wards it held following the 2011 Local Government Elections; testament to the fact that South Africans know that no other political formation has the track record, expertise and vision to move South Africa forward. The ANC is humbled by the confidence our people continue to place on our movement to deliver a better life for all and we use each election and by-election as an opportunity to redouble our efforts to realise the aspirations of our people.

The ANC expresses its gratitude to the multitudes who continue to exercise their hard-won right to vote for a government of their choice. We send our gratitude too to the often unthanked men and women of the Independent Electoral Commission who continue, unwaveringly and diligently, to deliver credible, free and fair elections all South Africans can have confidence in.
