ANC saddened by killing of Wandile Mkhize

Party says South Coast region in KZN has been stable with structures operating cohesively

ANC STATEMENT ON THE KILLING OF COMRADE WANDILE MKHIZE

The African National Congress is saddened by the unexpected and violent passing of Comrade Wandile Mkhize who got shot as he arrived home from the National Policy Conference of the ANC yesterday night. He was shot together with Comrade Nhlakanipho Ntshangase who was seriously injured and is currently in the Intensive Care Unit at a hospital in the KZN.  His death has robbed us of a valuable Comrade who made sterling contributions in both the pre-conference Provincial General Council of the KwaZulu-Natal Province and as well as the National Policy Conference that took place on 26th - 29th June 2012.

The attack on the two Comrades happened around 23:00 at Manaba in Margate both comrades were attacked by individuals whose identity is still not known. Comrade Wandile has been a loyal member of the ANC and has served in the leadership structures of the ANCYL in the lower South Coast Region where he served as the Provincial Secretary.  Currently he was an ANC Councillor and a member of the Regional Executive Committee of the ANC in the lower South Coast Region.

The circumstance and manner of the attack are suspicious as the region has been stable and our structures operating cohesively.  We are calling for thorough investigation of this attack and that the perpetrators be brought to book.

The ANC pays tribute to an individual who was a living definition of a disciplined and selfless cadre whose life was dedicated to improving the quality if life of our people. To his family, wife and kids we are indebted for their generosity of sharing him with the ANC. His life will be a constant reminder of the responsibility we carry of total liberation of our people.  May his Soul rest in peace!

Statement issued by Jackson Mthembu, ANC National spokesperson, July 1 2012
