ANC ungovernability campaign reaches City Council

The ANC caucus in the City of Cape Town today deliberately disrupted a City Council meeting. A number of ANC members strew documents all over the floor of the council. ANC members ignored all instructions from the speaker and sang and danced for hours.

This is little more than political hooliganism. It smacks of Marius Fransman's ungovernability tactics.

The ANC's objective is to stop effective governing from happening in DA-run municipalities before the election. They have no respect for democratic institutions or the people we are supposed to be serving together.

The debacle in council happened when the DA tabled the budget for public comment. The ANC bizarrely refused to allow the budget to go out for public comment. Instead, draft copies of the budget were strewn all over the council chambers and work was brought to a halt.

These are not the actions of a party capable of governing the City of Cape Town or the Western Cape. The ANC's only contribution is to disrupt and distort.

The ill behaviour of the ANC is another reason why the Western Cape voters rejected the ANC in 2009, 2011 and more recently in Mitchells Plain. The ANC will not succeed in making the province ungovernable because the voters in the Western Cape are more intelligent and mature than the ANC hooligans.

The people of the Western Cape will continue to punish the ANC at the polls for this kind of nonsense.
