Blue lights should be banned - Kate Lorimer

DA MPL asks how many more people must be injured, after Thomas Ferreira knocked over

SPEEDY ANSWERS NEEDED IN LATEST BLUE LIGHT INCIDENT

Speedy answers are needed on why the official vehicle of Gauteng Housing MEC, Humphrey Mmemezi, allegedly driving with flashing blue lights, knocked down 18 year old Thomas Ferreira in Krugersdorp. Ferreira has suffered serious injuries, possible brain damage, and is in a coma (see Beeld report).

According to police the MEC was not in the vehicle at the time of the accident. If this is so, why was the vehicle, a white BMW X5, using flashing blue lights? The vehicle was reportedly driving in the yellow lane and skipped a red traffic light before it knocked Ferreira from his motorbike.

Community Safety MEC, Faith Mazibuko, needs to take charge and investigate this matter immediately.  Action needs to be taken against those responsible. How many more innocent people have to be injured or killed before blue light convoys are banned?

Blue lights should be banned in Gauteng as they are in the Western Cape.
