Cape Town residents receive R897m in rebates - Ian Neilson

Senior citizens, the disabled, NPOs and residents who own properties worth less than R200,000 all benefit

City assists residents with rebates to the value of R897 261 879,00

As part of this administration's commitment to building a Caring City, the City of Cape Town has, for the period 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2012, assisted residents with rates rebates totalling R897 261 879,00.

Rebates for certain categories of ratepayers is a central part of this government's commitment to redressing historical imbalances and to providing assistance to those of our residents who are most in need of it.

Amongst the rates incomes forgone for the period 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2012 are:

Further to the above-mentioned, the City assists property owners whose household income is R3 000,00 or less with rates rebates and free services.

We are aware that many of our residents struggle financially and this government is committed to bringing them as much relief as we are able to do so.

By providing rates rebates for residents whose household income is less than R3 000,00, those whose properties are valued at less than R200 000,00, and to senior citizens and disabled persons, we make our vision for a Caring City a reality.

In addition to the afore-mentioned, the City also offers rebates to bona-fide non-government organisations, public benefit organisations, health and welfare institutions, educational institutions, charitable institutions, sporting bodies, youth development organisations and animal protection organisations.
