SACP's condemns Nicole Barlow for 'do a Hani on him' tweet

Party condemns comment and calls on law enforcement to not leave threat against Mantashe unattended

SACP condemned and to lay charges against Nicole Barlow in connection with her tweet they “missed an opportunity to do a Chris Hani on him…”

26 June 2023

The National Office Bearers of the South African Communist Party (SACP) denounced Nicole Barlow’s reply to a Sunday Times’ lead story of 25 June 2023. The SACP has resolved, and is in a process, to lay charges against Nicole Barlow. “Given what happened to Chris Hani, we cannot take the utterances lightly”, said SACP General Secretary Solly Mapaila on Monday following the Party Secretariat meeting which discussed the matter.

The Sunday Times wrote, “Top Story | Instead of joining Ramaphosa to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Danish and Dutch prime ministers, Mantashe attended a COSATU event in Boksburg….” In her reply, Nicole Barlow asserted, “We missed an opportunity to do a Chris Hani on him…”

Through the utterances, Nicole Barlow implicated herself in what happened to Chris Hani, the SACP General Secretary who was assassinated in cold blood on 10 April 1993. This also suggests they, the “We…” in her tweet, “…missed an opportunity to do” the same on Mantashe.

In missing the “opportunity”, who else were they aiming at, besides Mantashe? Who else did they miss? Who else did they not miss previously? These are some of the questions that must be asked about the self-implicating utterances by Nicole Barlow. The SACP calls on law enforcement authorities to not leave the threat on Mantashe, and possibly others, unattended.

The SACP is currently driving its campaign to secure a full inquest into the assassination of Chris Hani to unearth the whole truth and all the surrounding circumstances.
