SACP STATEMENT ON THE DESECRATION OF THE GRAVE OF CDE CHRIS HANI

The SACP visited the graveside of the late General Secretary of the SACP Cde Chris Hani after receiving information that there has been desecration of the tombstone. We can confirm that indeed this is true and that police are currently investigating this matter.

The SACP and the Hani family are highly angered and deeply offended by this sacrilegious act carried out by unknown forces. What is more disturbing is that this seems to be a calculated act to target former SACP leaders as we discovered at the beginning of last year that the tombstone of the late Cde Joe Slovo was vandalised as well.

We appeal that we provide police with the necessary space for them to carry out the investigations and we hope that the culprits will be brought to book soon. No amount of derision will erase from our collective memory the gallant role played by Cde Chris Hani and what he represents.
