Corrupt ANC puts Vaal on the brink of collapse – Solly Msimanga

DA says collapsing infrastructure means that residents and their livestock are exposed to toxic waste and pollution

#MsimangaForPremier: Corrupt ANC puts Vaal on the brink of collapse

11 October 2018

The Vaal region is on the brink of collapse as R800 million went ‘missing’ according to a report released by the Auditor-General.

This money was meant for the provision of services, such as waste management and the maintenance of the sewage and water works, for the people of Sharpeville, Sebokeng, Boipatong and adjacent towns.

The Auditor-General found that R872 446 370 was systematically looted through corrupt tenders by the ANC government.

As a result, the people of Emfuleni and the Vaal triangle have been put in grave danger as collapsing infrastructure means that residents and their livestock are exposed to toxic waste and pollution on a daily basis.

The water, soil and the air have now become so polluted, that children in the area are at risk of developing kidney conditions as well as asthma and other respiratory problems.

The ANC’s widespread corruption is not only impacting on our economy, our hospitals, our schools, and our ability to earn a living, it is also affecting our health.

I am deeply concerned about the suffering of our people in smaller municipalities across the province such as Merafong, Emfuleni and West Rand where the delivery of services has all but come to a standstill.

The VBS scandal also clearly shows how greedy, corrupt ANC officials are milking our municipalities without a thought for those who will now go without electricity and clean water.

This is not the life I want for the people of this province.

Next week I will take my Listening Tour to Emfuleni to hear the daily challenges of those who live in our small towns.

The people of this province deserve an honest government that is free of corruption.

Come 2019 when we govern Gauteng, we will ensure that government funds are spent on providing services for our people.
