COSAS on the Limpopo textbook question

Tshiamo Tsotetsi calls for criminal charges against company that dumped books

COSAS RESPONSE TO LIMPOPO TEXTBOOK QUESTION

The Congress of South African Student wishes to express its utterly disgust on the injustice done to the learners in Limpopo province, which has seen their right to education being highly limited. We see the frustration encountered by the student as nor less than a barbaric act that seek to set the country backward from the progress that the ANC led government has made in transforming the education quality of the majority. As the failure to deliver textbooks remains, this is equal to depriving the children of their constitutional right to basic education.

We call upon the department to lay criminal charges against the company that was contracted to deliver textbooks which were found dumped by the side of the road and further cancel it from tendering with any government department, as they have proved beyond reasonable doubt that they do not harbour even just a bit of the interest of the learners at heart.

We further call for the agent evaluation of the performance of the basic education minister in her term of office by the President. We remain dissatisfied about her obsession on the HIV/AIDS testing of the learners at schools when the credibility of the department is at the state of collapse.

On the recovery plan

The recovery plan in Limpopo must be understood to be a do or die affair that require the active participation of every stakeholder. Particularly the teachers and the parents, there must be a proper recovery programme which will properly entail the participation of parents at the home level, such a

Programme must be followed by a comprehensive monitoring mechanism so as to ensure that all those who expected to take part do so. We are further calling upon students in the senior grades and those in institutions of higher learning across the province to go all out in assisting the lower affected grades to cope.

We view the situation of the province as the one that require a drastic change on how the department conducted its day to day business, it is least of our expectation to see the circuit leadership and subject advisor relaxed in their air conditioned offices, everybody who receives any form of a salary from the education department in the province is expected to be seen sweating in the interest of the full recovery of the leaner in limpopo province.

General Winter Schools

The giant student movement is hereby wishing the entire student who assembled for the winter schools across the country the best of luck. We are confident that the commitment that they are showing will in the ultimate end bare frits of extremely positive result.
